Cutting films for an auteur is a tough challenge, one that demands a deep immersion in the script and the personality of the filmmaker. Imagine then what a balancing act must have to be performed when you are the go to editor for two of the world’s leading directors.

The most successful directors enjoy longstanding if generally unheralded creative partnerships with their editor. Thelma Schoonmaker has cut every Martin Scorsese feature since Raging Bull. Steven Spielberg’s collaborator in the cutting room since Close Encounters is Michael Kahn. Brian de Palma’s best work was co-created with the late Jerry Greenberg. Ridley Scott has come to rely on Pietro Scalia; Clint Eastwood on Joel Cox. Paul Greengrass’ signature kinetic style is undoubtedly enhanced by Christopher Rouse.
